Honeysuckle Plum is one of the brighter, more layered cups in our lineup — the kind of coffee that keeps unfolding rather than announcing itself all at once. The first impression is ripe plum and cherry, full and slightly jammy, the way natural-process coffees tend to lean into fruit rather than around it. As the cup cools, grapefruit and honeysuckle start to come forward — one sharp and citrus-bright, the other soft and floral — playing off each other in a way that keeps the sweetness from ever feeling heavy. It finishes on cacao nib, a light bitterness that grounds everything that came before it. This lot comes from the Moganad estate, grown at 1,380 metres above sea level — high enough that the beans develop slowly, which is a big part of where that complexity comes from. It's processed natural: the cherries are dried whole in the sun rather than pulped and washed first, so the fruit stays in contact with the bean the entire time. That's a riskier, slower process than washing — it demands more attention during drying to avoid over-fermentation — but done right, it's what gives a coffee like this its depth: the sugars and fruit character from the cherry work their way into the bean itself, rather than being rinsed away. The varietal here is SLN9, medium-bodied, with an acidity the estate itself describes as bright and complex — not the sharp, single-note acidity of a light washed coffee, but something with more layers to it, which tracks with everything else going on in the cup. Like every coffee we carry, this lot is sourced directly from the estate, cupped and scored above 80 on the specialty scale before it earns a place in a Five Roam bag, and roasted in small batches rather than pulled from a warehouse queue. Given the fruit-forward, floral profile, it's particularly rewarding as a pour-over or in an AeroPress — methods that let the aromatics come through clearly rather than getting muted under a heavier brew.
