Blueberry Compote is the most intensely fruited lot in the lineup — Black Cherry, Raisins, and Blueberry compote stacked on top of Dark Grapes and a genuine wine-like character, with kumquat cutting through to keep all that Richness from tipping into Heaviness. "Compote" isn't decoration in the name — this coffee genuinely reads like cooked, concentrated fruit rather than fresh fruit, dense and slightly jammy in exactly the way a natural process at this intensity should taste. It comes from the Orchardale estate at 1,520 Metres above sea level — meaningfully higher than most of the other lots in our range, and that altitude is doing real work here. Slower maturation at elevation gives the cherries more time to develop sugar and complexity before they're ever picked, which is a large part of why this lot reads as dense and layered rather than simply "Fruity." It's processed natural, dried whole in the cherry, letting that concentrated fruit character work directly into the bean. The acidity is where this lot asks for real attention: it's genuinely complex, built from citric, malic, and acetic acid working together rather than any single sharp note — citric brings a citrus-like brightness, malic a crisp, apple-like edge, and acetic a subtle winey tang that's common in more intensely fermented naturals and ties directly into that "wine" note in the cup. Together they give the coffee real structure underneath all that fruit, rather than letting the sweetness sit flat. Varietal SL9, medium-plus body — enough weight to carry the fruit intensity without losing definition. This is a coffee for someone who wants their pour-over to taste unmistakably like something, not a quiet, easy-drinking cup. Sourced directly from the Orchardale estate, cupped and scored above 80 before it earns a place in a Five Roam bag, and roasted in small batches like every lot we carry.
